September is Baby Safety Month
Each September highlights the importance of everyday safety for babies and young children. Baby Safety Month encourages parents and caregivers to review daily routines, baby products, and home environments to reduce the risk of injury.
What Is Baby Safety Month?
Baby Safety Month is observed every September and is sponsored by the Baby Safety Alliance, formerly known as JPMA.
The annual campaign provides education to parents and caregivers that can greatly reduce injuries and help make more informed decisions about baby products and safety practices. Review the free Baby Safety 101 manual for practical, evidence-based guidance from pediatricians to navigate a baby’s first year.
When did mima join the Baby Safety Alliance (formerly JPMA)?
Mima was welcomed as a new member of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) on April 18, 2025.
Top Baby Safety Tips for the Early Months for New and Expectant Moms
To recognize Baby Safety Month, Mima has created a series of instructional videos with clear guidance on using Mima strollers and high chairs safely. They also explain how to use stroller car seat adapters and highlight key safety considerations for parents.
Whether you are setting up the car seat with our car seat adapters or adjusting the harness straps, and properly attaching the footmuffs and winter outfits, our videos walk you through each step. Stroller adapters allow you to attach an infant car seat for added convenience and support. Using adapters and stroller accessories correctly is important for your baby’s safety.
Safe Sleep Practices Every Parent Should Know
Creating a safe sleep environment is one of the most important ways to protect your baby in the early months. Safe sleep involves not only where your baby sleeps, but also how the sleep space is set up and the routines you follow.
The American Academy of Pediatrics emphasizes that all of these factors work together to reduce the risk of sleep-related injuries and conditions.
-
Choose a crib or bassinet that meets current safety standards and is appropriate for your baby’s age and weight.
-
Keep the sleep area free of cords, window blinds, and other hazards.
-
Check regularly that the mattress stays firm and flat.
-
Pay attention to your baby’s sleep patterns.
-
Contact your child’s pediatrician if you notice changes in sleep habits or have questions about safe sleep practices.
Follow trusted safety guidance and keep up with current recommendations. Reach out to your child’s pediatrician if questions come up.
Stay informed and proactive to support your child’s safety during every nap and night.
Which Mima products been recognized by the Baby Safety Alliance (formerly JPMA)?
Mima has been actively involved with the organization for several years prior to 2025, with several products, such as the Mima Zigi, featured at the JPMA Baby Show as early as 2017. The Creo stroller was named a finalist in the Environmentally Friendly category of the 2024 JPMA Innovation Awards (now the Baby Safety Alliance Innovation Awards).

Key Tips to Remember for Busy Families:
-
Car Seat Safety:
Choose a car seat that fits your baby’s age, weight, and height. Make sure it is installed correctly and that your baby is securely fastened according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

-
Safe Sleep Practices:
Place your baby on their back to sleep on a firm mattress. Keep the crib free of loose bedding, pillows, and toys to reduce the risk of SIDS.

-
-
Baby-Proofing Your Home:
Anchor furniture to prevent tipping, cover electrical outlets, and use safety gates to reduce fall risks. Keep small objects, choking hazards, and harmful substances out of reach. -
Feeding Safety:
Supervise your baby during feedings. Check the temperatures of bottles and food to prevent unnecessary burns. Keep the feeding area clean and safe. -
Bath Time Safety:
-
Test the water temperature before placing your baby in the bath.
-
Never leave your baby unattended, even for a moment.
-
-
Health and Hygiene:
Schedule regular well-child visits with your child’s pediatrician for vaccinations and routine health checks. -
Pediatricians monitor development, diagnose illness, and provide guidance, and appointments are often easy to schedule close to home or work.
-
Ask questions during visits and expect clear answers. Keep baby items, including toys and bottles, clean and in good condition.
-
-
Emergency Preparedness:
Learn infant first aid and CPR. Keep emergency contact numbers accessible. Bookmark the location of the nearest emergency room.
